ABOUT ELIXIR

Picture

Elixir re-invents music of the American 1800's into unique arrangements. Taking popular songs of our ancestors and blending them with the music styles of musicians that followed them.  Long before Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen recorded his Americana album, Elixir was mixing old songs with different music styles along with traditional versions.
No musical style is safe from this trio's inventive minds. Their very popular version of "Skip to My Lou" done like the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann" has rocked audiences all over the state of Ohio. They have delved into the the world of reggae with their funky version of "Down in the Valley", a Doors beat for "Old MacDonald", an Andrews Sisters swing for "Mary Had a Little Lamb", a rollicking polka for "Paw Paw Patch" and texas swing for "Yellow Rose of Texas", just to touch on a few of the musical styles Elixir has played with.
Elixir was formed in 1992 by Mike Petee. This wonderfully fun, historical group's members for the last decade have been Mike and Chris Petee, and Gerry Rensel.  They all have long histories of musical performance and each member brings their own strengths to the group, making a delightful elixir of vocal and musical skills.
This talented trio plays guitars, bass, guitjo, mandolin, fiddle and a number of swell percussion instruments, not to mention a duck call. Audiences are delighted by their harmonies and goofy sense of humor. Every performance is full of laughs, sing-a-longs, toe-tapping, hand clapping and lots of historical information the Tripster. Elixir can format their performance to fit your era of the 1800's.  We have designed shows for the civil war, gold rush, Davey Crockett, and westward migration eras as examples.
Elixir was voted "Most Promising Group" by the Entertainer Indi-Association and is fee supported by The Ohio Arts Council. Elixir is a long time member of the Ohio Arts Presenters Network.
Elixir performs at concert series, schools, museums, libraries, festivals and special events throughout the state of Ohio.
In 2007 Mike created a Chautauqua series called "Spend An Evening With.." that is presented in Mount Vernon, Ohio on a monthly basis. Elixir sponsors these living history presentations.  The series became fee supported performances through the
Ohio Humanites Council in 2010.
